The top left of the check indicates it was the 622nd check to be issued by the Hudson River State Hospital for the Insane. Originally signed on the 27th of November, 1867, the check was processed by the First National Bank of Poughkeepsie, New York, on the 29th of November, 1867.
The markings in blue “317-7” indicate the batch number for the check as noted in the First Annual Report of the Managers of the Hudson River State Hospital for the Insane.

What makes this item unique is the hand signature by James H. Weeks and the inclusion of “for the Insane” within the title of the voucher. Click the images for a more detailed view.
